23 Watermain Breaks, Water Stoppages Strike Des Plaines

For one Des Plaines couple, Tuesday morning was anything but typical.

Eileen and Jerry Smith woke to gurgling sounds and the sight of water roaring to the top of what looked like a sewer in their parkway.

What the Smiths were experiencing was one of 23 water main breaks throughout Des Plaines that occurred between last Thursday to Sunday. As of Tuesday, all but four of the water mains had been repaired.
